A surge in drug and theft offences has fuelled a 6.4 per cent rise in crime in Maribyrnong in 2015 compared to the previous year.
Overall crime was down 3.4 per cent in Hobsons Bay in the same period.
There were 8663 crimes recorded in Maribyrnong in 2015, up from 8139 in 2014 but still below the 2012 peak of 8900.
The 6782 offences recorded in Hobsons Bay were down from 7019 in 2014 but still above the 2013 figure of 6696.
Family incidents rose from 1035 to 1071 in Hobsons Bay and were also up from 848 to 861 in Maribyrnong.
In Maribyrnong stalking, harassment and threatening behaviour offences jumped from 99 to 141, property damage climbed from 569 to 643, burglary/break and enter was up from 831 to 840 and theft rose from 3493 to 3783.
Drug dealing and trafficking almost doubled from 103 to 191, drug use and possession rose from 371 to 423 and deception was up almost 50 per cent from 505 to 754.
Assaults dropped from 515 to 487, sexual offences were down from 141 to 111 and robbery reduced from 77to 69.
Disorderly and offensive conduct offences plunged from 360 to 250 and blackmail and extortion offences fell from 31 to 10.
In Hobsons Bay deception was up from 357 to 429, abduction and related offences rose from 6 to 10 and robbery climbed from 36 to 51.
Theft dropped from 2790 to 2585 despite steal from motor vehicle offences rising from 969 to 993.
Assaults dropped from 576 to 526, sexual offences were down from 175 to 102 and arson fell from 41 to 29.
Drug and weapons offences were also down.
Crime spike in 3012
The largest local increase in crime was the 10.3 per cent jump in the 3012 postcode, covering the suburbs of Brooklyn, Kingsville, Maidstone, Tottenham and West Footscray.
Crime was also up by 10.2 per cent in Braybrook, 6.6 per cent in Yarraville and 2.5 per cent in Footscray and Seddon.
Drops of 7 per cent were recorded in Williamstown and Williamstown North, 6.3 per cent in Altona and Seaholme, 3 per cent in Altona Meadows, Laverton and Seabrook and 0.7 per cent in Newport, Spotswood and South Kingsville.
An 8.1 per cent increase in crime was recorded across Victoria, up from 459,681 to 497,116 offences in the previous year. Family incidents were up 9.2 per cent.
