Funds received for JK Grant Reserve pavilion

The state government has contributed $100,000 towards a new pavilion that will enable greater female participation in sports at Altona’s JK Grant Reserve.

The project includes a new office, undercover area, and upgraded changing rooms, showers, toilets and umpire facilities.

The pavilion is used by Altona Football Club, Altona Junior Football Club, Altona Auskick Centre and Altona Cricket, which have a combined membership of more than 630 participants.

Altona MP Jill Hennessy on Friday announced a $100,000 community sports infrastructure fund grant to upgrade the pavilion.

“I’m particularly proud to see Altona sporting clubs working to increase women’s involvement in sport,” she said.

“This project will help the clubs attract and retain female participants and umpires, as well as opening up the potential for the venue to host junior finals matches.”

Hobsons Bay deputy mayor Sandra Wilson said the pavilion would be a major component of the Altona central sports precinct plan to improve local facilities.

“Council will also receive a $25,000 grant from AFL Victoria, on top of the $20,000 in tenant club contributions and, including council’s significant contribution, will take the total investment in the precinct to about $1.5 million.”
