Laverton is holding a Block Party and the whole neighbourhood is invited.

The street party – in Woods and Lohse streets – caps off two weeks of arts and activities as part of Laverton Art Exhibition, showcasing the talent of local artists.

It is on at the Woods Street Arts Space from April 1-3.

Artists aged 12-25 will then showcase their works in the same space as part of National Youth Week and the Hobsons Bay Youth Arts Prize, with their artworks on display from April 8-17.

The Block Party, from 11am-4pm on April 17, features the Crashendo orchestra from Laverton P-12 College, a Polynesian dance troupe, live music and DJs, street art demonstrations, creative workshops, artisan market stalls and free face-painting.

Cr Colleen Gates said the party would help raise money for volunteer refugee support group West Welcome Wagon.

“There will be special food offers from local traders and all proceeds from stallholder fees will be donated to West Welcome Wagon.”
