Street art comes to life across Maribyrnong

A fantasy artwork based on the flora and fauna of the Maribyrnong River is one of seven new street art installations that will appear around Maribyrnong by next month.

Artists have been working on commissions in Maribyrnong council’s StreetWORKS community art project, which uses art to brighten city spaces while deterring illegal tagging.

Locations include the Kingsville Post Office, the Footscray and District Angling Club and the carpark off Coral Avenue in Footscray, where Mayfield Palace (artists Chuck Mayfield and Júlia Palazzo) have been creating colourful creations.

Creature Creature artist duo Chanel Tang and Ambrose Rehorek have installed their work ‘Nest’ at Footscray Milking Station.

The work features native birds from SE Asian countries – representing various peoples who have immigrated to Australia.

Maribyrnong mayor Cameron McDonald said StreetWORKS offers local artists new ways to express their work in the public domain.
