Altona has slipped further off the pace in Hockey Victoria men’s premier league after a 2-0 loss to Greensborough at Sugargum Drive on Saturday.
The slow-starting Seagulls conceded both goals in the first half and had to play catch-up from there on.
A third loss in five games has left the Gulls in third-last spot on the ladder.
Altona has a chance to get back in the winners’ circle when the side travels to play bottom outfit Melbourne University on Saturday.
University is out of sorts, coming off a staggering 10-1 defeat to Doncaster.
Footscray had its finest hour this season to date when it dismantled Essendon at McIvor Reserve for its first win.
Leading by two goals at half-time, the Bulldogs ran riot with a four-goal second half to complete a 6-0 rout. The Doggies had six individual goal scorers. Footscray will travel to Greensborough on Saturday.
In the women’s premier league, Altona and Greensborough played out a 1-1 draw at Grant Reserve. It would be seen as a good point for the Seagulls against the undefeated second-placed side.
The result was enough for the Seagulls to hold on to fourth place on the ladder.
Footscray remains unbeaten after four games, but had to work hard to secure a 2-1 win over Essendon.
While the third-placed Bulldogs are a perfect four-from-four, something might have to give when they meet Greensborough away on Saturday.
