The blue thread through Footscray

All things blue and Footscray are being celebrated in two artistic endeavours to mark 100 years of Victoria University.

The link between VU and the colour blue stems back to VU’s first predecessor institute, Footscray Technical School.

VU has launched a ‘Bluscray’ campaign that will see blue highlighting community events, buildings and public art around Footscray.

The community can get into the ‘Bluscray’ spirit by entering a photo competition or taking part in a needlework project led by Yarraville textile artist Jessie Deane.

Picturing BluScray is open to both amateur and professional photographers. All images entered in the contest will be exhibited at VU at MetroWest from June 30 to July 23.

Threads of Footscray, is a large-scale needlework project led by Deane who will work with up to 40 people interested in creating an artwork that focuses on how blue threads through Footscray’s landscapes.

The completed works will be displayed in an exhibition at VU at Metro West in December.

To enter the Picturing BluScray photo contest, visit www.vu.edu.au or email katrina.gubbins@vu.edu.au.

To take part in Threads of Footscray email metrowest@vu.edu.au.
