Victoria University students have rolled up their sleeves to help green the west and spread the climate change message.
Diploma of community development students recently hosted a World Environment Day 2016 event at VU’s Nicholson Street campus at Footscray.
Student Emily Mohan said the day had been organised to raise awareness of climate change and spread the message that the community can make small changes at home to reduce our carbon footprint.
Students organised activities including live entertainment and a puppet show, screened an environmental film and had guest speakers, along with stalls offering vegetarian food and upcycled and recycled goods.
A highlight was the creation of a community garden on campus.
Elsewhere in Footscray, Friends of Newells Paddock got into World Environment Day spirit by planting 400 new shrubs and weeding to improve the wetland area.
