Footscray wins close ones to keep top-four hopes alive

Footscray stormed home to snatch a five-point win over Box Hill Hawks in the VFL at the Whitten Oval on Saturday.

The Bulldogs kicked five unanswered goals in the last quarter to overturn a 31-point three-quarter time deficit and register a remarkable victory.

It was a huge result for the Dogs as it all but books their place in the finals and keeps their double-chance hopes alive.

Nathan Hrovat was the catalyst for Footscray with two goals in a best-on-ground performance.

The ever-consistent Lukas Webb and Jordan Russell continued their fine seasons.

Footscray has been taking its fans on a wild ride of late. The Bulldogs’ past seven games have been decided by two goals or less.

The sixth-placed Dogs will make the short trip to Williamstown for a derby at Burbank Oval on Sunday.

Williamstown, the reigning premier, is flying high at the top of the ladder.

The Seagulls had a fairly comfortable 24-point win over fast-finishing Sandringham at Trevor Baker Beach Oval.

Arryn Siposs and Dylan Conway kicked three goals apiece for the Seagulls, while Willie Wheeler was best-on-ground.
