A sea of pink contrasted with an overcast sky as Williamstown Junior Football Club players ran on to the field on Mother’s Day “pinked up” to help fight breast cancer.
Players in pink socks, coaching staff and parents of the club’s under-13 group held a Pink Sports Day during their round five games. The Williamstown boys team ran through a pink banner as proud mums looked on.
Team manager Marita Ryan said everyone got behind the boys as they played for a great cause, raising awareness and funds for the Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA).
“One of our lovely families has recently been affected by breast cancer so it’s personal for our group,” she said. “Everyone wanted to throw as much support as they could behind the day.” BCNA head Christine Nolan said more than 15,000 women in Australia were expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.
One of the club’s families donated a pink WJFC jumper to raffle with all funds donated to BCNA.
The Williamstown juniors played a great game, notching their fifth straight win of the season.
