St John’s history

Footscray Historical Society will host a free talk by Stewart Granger, Footscray divisional manager of St John Ambulance, on the history of the ambos, at 2pm, Sunday, August 14, at Ercildoune, 66 Napier Street, Footscray. Afternoon tea provided.

 

Science leader goes public

Join economic journalist Alan Kohler as he talks with Australia’s chief scientist and entrepreneur, Dr Alan Finkel, from 6pm, Wednesday, August 10, at VU MetroWest, 138 Nicholson Street, Footscray.

Athletics carnival

Williamstown Little Athletics Club will hold a free carnival at Newport Park athletics track from 9-11am on Saturday, August 13, for new and existing members to celebrate athletics during the Rio Olympics.

 

Yoga for kids

Children’s yoga at Maidstone Community Centre involves learning yoga postures, breathing exercises, play and creative movement for school-age children. From 4-5pm, Tuesdays; $60 per term or $8 casual visit.

 

Diabetes support

Westgate Diabetes support group meets 10am on the first Tuesday of the month at Altona Bowling Club.

The ‘best medicine’

Cherry Laughter Club meets 10am, Saturdays, in the barbecue area at Cherry Lake, Altona. With host Carolyn Nicholson, the club aims to promote good health through laughing.
