Newport Power footballers are pulling up their pink socks to help raise funds for Breast Cancer Network Australia.

The club, which also has a strong netball side, will hold a Pink Sports Day from 9am-noon on Saturday, August 27 at its home ground, Bryan Martyn Oval.

Former AFL players Mark Williams and Mick Martyn, the latter being the son of Bryan Martyn, after whom the reserve is named, are helping spread the word.

Mick, Newport Football Club’s No.1 ticket holder, said that as the father of three young girls, he was keen to help.

“We all have daughters that will grow up and face these type of situations,” he said.

“My father actually passed away from cancer but it was bowel cancer.

“Mark Williams and I are playing the EJ Whitten game coming up – that’s for prostate cancer. There’s a lot of these cancer organisations … [it’s] good to be involved with and part of.”

Last month, Newport Power auctioned a pink Sherrin signed by former Hawthorn champion Shane Crawford to raise money for the breast cancer network.
