Morning tea

Williamstown library will host a Biggest Morning Tea on May 27 from 10.30-11.30am. Share tea and coffee with friends and neighbours while supporting cancer research. Entry with a gold coin donation; all proceeds will go to the Cancer Council.

Transition town

Join in setting up a Transition Town in Maribyrnong. Share ideas on projects such as gardening, reducing waste and increasing energy efficiency in the home.

FEMS zine

Females for Equality Making Stuff (FEMS) is creating a space for women to share their experiences in a creative way. Submissions for the second FEMS zine around the theme of diversity are due by July 1.

Defend yourself

KAPAP self-defence classes for women in the west will launch next week. A free trial class will be held at the Spotswood headquarters, 2/50 Hudson Road, on May 28, at 7pm.

Art tour

Join the next FOOT IT art tour along the Maribyrnong River at the historic Cotton Mills. Take in public artworks, visit the Waterside Metal Art forge and finish at the Footscray Community Arts Centre. The tour will run from noon until 2pm Saturday, May 30.

Dargie family talk

Footscray Historical Society’s quarterly meeting will feature Roger Dargie’s homage to his father and uncle, Bill and Horrie. The pair became renowned on the world stage in their respective fields of visual art and music. The talk will be held at Ercildoune, 66 Napier Street, Footscray, at 2 pm on Sunday, May 31.

Courses in Laverton

The Laverton Community Centre and Neighbourhood House is running self-esteem and assertion courses for women on Tuesdays, 10am-noon. Other courses include anger management for men, gentle exercise and meditation, and an everyday banking workshop. The centre is in The Hub, 95-105 Railway Avenue. Bookings essential.
