■ Werribee Football Club is enjoying a great start to the 2015 season and is ticking off a number of club hoodoos on the way. The win at Port Melbourne was the first against the Borough in a decade. The nailbiting victory over Box Hill Hawks was the first at Box Hill in eight years. The icing on the cake, though, was last Sunday, when the Tigers knocked over arch-rival Williamstown, something they hadn’t done for seven years. The fact the game was 1 v 2 was almost a secondary issue. The Tigers got up by two points and Werribee president John Nicol rode every bump, joking he might have to sack the timekeepers after the nailbiting last quarter went 36 minutes. The Tigers are on top of the ladder and will play Frankston at Avalon Airport Oval this week.

The Western Bulldogs trainers night this Friday will be a beauty. Bobby Murphy and myself will host the event and what a thrill it will be to hear former Bulldogs champion Kelvin Templeton. He was a superstar of his era and will be among emerging stars such as Lachie Hunter, Jake Stringer, and Marcus Bontempelli. Throw in Luke Beveridge, Mark Hunter and Merv Hughes and you have a special event. All proceeds go to improving and buying equipment for the players. The Doggies play against Melbourne at the MCG at 3.20pm on Sunday.

Manor Lakes Football Club is holding a fundraiser for the president’s aunt, who has been diagnosed with cancer. Belinda is a young mother of four girls, the youngest five-months old. The day is on May 30, when the Storm take on Wyndhamvale with four games on the day, including the youth girls at noon. There will be a sausage sizzle and a raffle to raise funds for Belinda’s treatment. Anyone who would like to donate anything for the day should contact the club through Lisa Paul at lisa_7961@hotmail.com

■ St. Albans Football Club has started a FIDA team for 2015 and is looking for players. FIDA stands for Football Integration Development Association and is a competition for players with intellectual disabilities. It is based on fitness, fun and friendship. The Saints train once a week, at 5pm on Wednesdays, at Kings Reserve. Contact Ian MacKenzie on 0401 133 755 or Nick Brown on 0431 302 666. Male and female players between 14 and 40 are welcome.
