The Melbourne Writers Festival celebrates the cultural richness of Footscray with a series of activities and events this Saturday.

New church to open

A new church, the Laneway Church, will launch with a community service at 4pm, Sunday, at Victoria University’s Footscray Park campus, Building G. People from all backgrounds and religions welcome.

 

Women supported

The Sunrise Women’s Group for women with a disability and/or mental health condition aged 18-65 meets fortnightly from 10am-1.30pm on a Friday at the Laverton Community Hub.

Bronte on stage

Inspired by the letters of Charlotte Bronte, the stage production of Miss Bronte will be performed at 7pm on September 1 at Altona Theatre, 115 Civic Parade. Adult themes, not suitable for children under 12. Tickets and details:

Walk a heritage trail

Free heritage walking tours of Williamstown will be held from 11.45am on Tuesdays and Fridays from September 2 and 30. Meet at Hobsons Bay Visitor Information Centre, Commonwealth Reserve, Williamstown.

Hub throws a party

An open day will be held on September 3 from 10am-1pm at Newport Community Hub, 13 Mason Street, Newport. Join the party in Paine Reserve with roving performers, face painting, book making, craft activities and live music.

 

Ready for boarding

Tenacious, the world’s biggest wooden ship, is open to the public from 9am-4pm on September 1 and 2 at Seaworks, 82 Nelson Place, Williamstown. The ship is built for people of all abilities and has wheelchair-accessible rigging and masts.
