Motorists are being warned not to try to cross Altona ford as Kororoit Creek continues to rise.

With the heavy rains, Racecourse Road has flooded and cars are getting stuck trying to get through.

Altona photographer Kathryn Hocking captured the rising waters on Thursday as cars continued trying to cross.

“I went down to see how much the water had risen from yesterday and to get some photos and I saw a number of people crossing the ford,” she said.

“They were still trying to drive through this afternoon.

“It’s still rising, as far as we can tell. It was about 30 centimetres this morning.”

Altona SES unit controller, Craig MacCallum, urged motorists to avoid the road until flood levels have dropped.

“Driving through floodwater, you’re putting your life at risk and if you do get stuck you’re also putting the lives at risk of the people who have got to rescue you.”
