Christine Anu will headline Last Night of the Proms in Williamstown

Australian pop singer and actor Christine Anu has been announced as the headline act for the Last Night of the Proms in Williamstown next month.

The Western Region Concert Band and SingWest choir will perform music such as Military March No.4 by Elgar and Irish Tune from County Derry (aka Danny Boy) by Percy Grainger.

Publicity officer John Mansfield said prommers – the name given to people who attend the concerts – would wave Union Jacks and Australian flags, don fancy dress and sing along at Williamstown Town Hall.

“The program will be varied and will include an arrangement called Instant Concert, which is 35 tunes in two minutes,” he said. “Christine Anu will be singing 10 of her favourite songs, including Island Home.

“Then the band will go into what is affectionately known as the prom-cycle. That is what they do every year at the Royal Albert Hall in London.”

It features Land of Hope and Glory, Fantasy on British Sea Songs, Jerusalem and Rule Britannia!
