A walk will be held at Altona’s Cherry Lake to mark Autism Awareness Month and raise funds for Amaze (Autism Victoria).
The organisers, Jasmine Locke and partner Matthew Carboon, of Altona Meadows, said their son, William, 9, was diagnosed with autism when he was three years and eight months old.
“He’s a brilliant boy,” Ms Locke said.
“He’s one of the most genuine people I’ve ever met. I don’t want a cure for my son – I just want other people to be able to understand and enjoy him as much as we get to.”
Ms Locke said the walk also aimed to raise awareness of the benefits of physical activity for children with autism.
Mr Carboon runs a business providing personal training for children with autism.
The event is at Altona’s Cherry Lake on April 19 from 10am-3pm, with the walk to start at 11am.
Entry for the walk is $5 with all funds going to Amaze to help people on the autism spectrum.
