A Seaholme man has been honoured for having Australia’s top hot rod after winning the Australian Street Rod Federation ‘nationals’ over Easter.
Len Case’s T-bucket, which he finished building in 2008, has always attracted a lot of attention, but the award “blew him away”.
A T-bucket is based on a Model T Ford from 1915-1927 but is extensively modified or built with replica parts.
Mr Case won top T-bucket at the nationals in 2009 and 2011 but missed out on the 2013 awards because of a back operation.
The nationals are held every two years and attract entrants from all over Australia.
“So this year, it was up at Newcastle in New South Wales,” Mr Case said. “I ended up getting top hot rod. There were 904 entries.”
His massive trophy is a perpetual one that has changed hands for 44 years.
