Footy memento stolen

A 1920 VFA medallion belonging to a Footscray player was among items stolen during a burglary in Newport on Good Friday. The medal was taken after a Douglas Parade home was ransacked between 11am and 4pm. Information to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Workplace death

A rubbish collector was killed when his truck rolled and crushed him in Melbourne’s west early last Saturday. The man was collecting bins on Droop Street, Footscray, about 3.20am when his truck pinned him between the vehicle and a pole. Emergency services were called and paramedics attempted to revive the man, but he died at the scene. WorkCover is investigating the fatality.

The Voice calls

The Voice Australia finalist Soli Tesema will headline an awards night at Footscray to mark the achievements of an African-Australian youth group. The National Youth Week event will be held at VU Metro West, 138 Nicholson Street, Footscray, at 6.30pm Saturday.
