Footscray police uncover stolen tool treasure trove

A tradies’ treasure trove of stolen tools has been uncovered at Footscray.

Footscray police are inviting victims of power tool thefts to the station today for a chance to reclaim their goods after the discovery of a cache of stolen tools at a house on Beevers Street last month.

The tools were located when police attended the home on Tuesday, September 27. Sergeant Kris Hamilton said as they arrived at the address, police saw a car speeding away.

A closer inspection of the property revealed items that roused police suspicions, leading them to obtain and execute a search warrant.

The raid uncovered two box trailers, one of which contained a large number of power tools, all believed to have been stolen.

The discovery follows a spate of recent cases of tradies’ vehicles being broken into across the inner west.

Thieves have been breaking into utes and work vehicles, often making off with thousands of dollars worth of tools.

The thefts are occurring in driveways overnight, as well as from construction sites, when tools may be left unsecured.

Tradies are being urged to lock their vehicles and take the time to remove all valuable items.

A list of tools and photographs of all items have been compiled and stored at Footscray Police Station.
