Footscray Edgewater was brushed aside by Fitzroy Doncaster in a seven-wicket loss at Merv Hughes Oval on Saturday.
After setting a competitive 233, the Bulldogs claimed the early wickets of Noah Korkolis and Nat Vardi to have the Lions on the back foot at 2-25.
Both wickets went to paceman Lucas Dredge, the in-form new-ball operator claiming 3-49 off 19 overs.
The Bulldogs’ problem was that Dredge was their only bowler to claim a breakthrough. Six others combined for 64 wicketless overs.
Fitzroy-Doncaster, on the back of an unbeaten century from Tim Sheehan (101no) and half centuries to Peter Dickson (55) and Liam Banthorpe (52no), passed the target three down in 86 overs.
It was a significant victory for the Lions as it moved them above Footscray Edgewater on the ladder. The Bulldogs tumbled to sixth ahead of the Twenty20 section of the draw, which will have each club playing four games of the shortest format over the next two weekends.
