West Footscray Bunnings Warehouse opens on May 11

The countdown is nearly over for the opening of the new

West Footscray Bunnings Warehouse.

The store will open to the public on Monday, May 11, before hosting a grand opening celebration on Friday, May 15.

Complex manager Ross Cutler said the 14,500-square-metre warehouse would employ close to 200 workers.

“We have 180 team members on board,” he said. “We’ve got qualified carpenters, horticulturalists, plumbers and electricians.”

The heritage facade from the old Dimmeys building has been retained as part of the new warehouse, which has been built in a triangular shape to fit the unusual Geelong Road site. It includes an underground car park for more than 420 cars.

Mr Cutler said the logistics of getting the store up and running had been a challenge, with construction still under way alongside delivery of up to 800 pallets of goods a day.

“The balance has been about getting the site up and running to the position where we can actually receive stock and merchandise.”

The May 15 grand opening will take place from 5-9pm, with a dance party featuring popular children’s character Dora the Explorer as well as games, giveaways and circus-themed activities such as clowns.

AFL footballers Scott West (between 10am and 2pm) and Adam Cooney (noon to 2pm) will be in-store on Saturday, May 16.

Entertainment will return for the first two weekends while free workshops for both adults and kids will be held every weekend.

Bunnings Warehouse West Footscray is at 240-246 Geelong Road, West Footscray.
