Altona slumps to third straight loss

Altona will get a chance to apply the brakes on its downturn in form in sub-district cricket.

The A’s are looking forward to a much-needed mid-season break after losing three games in a row.

It has been a feast or a famine for the A’s this season, who started the season on a four-game winning streak to be on top at one stage.

The recent run of bad results has the A’s down in sixth spot and opened the door for a raid on their position in the top six.

Altona lost its second consecutive game at home on Saturday, going down to Box Hill in a one-day upset by eight wickets at Grant Reserve.

The A’s could only manage 6-187 off their 45 overs with David Kinsella leading the way with 65 from the top of the order.

Box Hill, a side that had struggled to this point in the season, cruised to the target on the back of an unbeaten century from opener Paul Gloury (103 not out).

Williamstown is all the rage in sub-district cricket. The Seagulls will go into the break sitting on top of the ladder after a stunning form reversal in the past three games.

The Gulls overcame a stern test from Mount Waverley to win by 29 runs on the road at Mount Waverley Reserve.

Yarraville had been looking like finals material in recent weeks, but they suffered a disappointing five-wicket loss to Noble Park, leaving them nine points outside the top six.

The Eagles posted 6-201 with opener Matthew Love on-song with 77 and all-rounder Akshat Buch chipping in with 30 not out.

Noble Park recovered from a shaky 5-90 to pass the target with nine balls to spare.

In Premier Cricket, Footscray Edgewater and Ringwood shared the points after the match ended in a draw at Russell Lucas Oval.

Footscray Edgewater, spearheaded by 46 from Travis Dean, put up 9-157 off 55 overs before declaring, leaving Ringwood 41 overs to get the runs. It was the Bulldogs who had the better chance of winning the game, taking 8-117 before the close of play.

In the VTCA, Yarraville Club slumped to a rare heavy loss, smashed by Keilor to the tune of 191 runs.

The Clubbers are still well placed in second spot heading into Christmas.

Meanwhile, St Andrews games record holder Mick Gregory celebrated his 300th game for the club on Sunday. Gregory is the heart and soul of the Saints, both as a player and for his work around the Braybrook-based club.
