Mental as Anything ring in the new year in Footscray

The year will end with a bang when New Year’s Eve fireworks and legendary Australian rock outfit Mental as Anything light up Footscray Park on December 31.

The evening of free entertainment will begin at 6.30pm, with a stellar entertainment line-up for all ages taking to the stage.

Acts will include the interactive stage show of The Mudcakes, the brass street band sounds of Horns of Leroy and the flamboyant high-energy rhythm of King Bell and Soukous Ba Congo.

The night will be rounded out with a headline show from madcap rock band Mental as Anything and a selection of its greatest hits.

Emcee Tegan Higginbotham will keep the evening ticking along up until the spectacular fireworks display, which is set to run from 9.30pm.

The event is alcohol free and dog owners are advised to leave their furry friends at home.

Maribyrnong mayor Catherine Cumming said the fireworks event was one of the area’s most popular annual events.

“This year promises to be our most spectacular yet, with an impressive line-up of entertainment for the whole family to enjoy,” she said.

“The early fireworks display allows families to ring in the New Year without the late night or huge crowds of the city centre.”
