A Williamstown couple has been honoured by royalty for their contribution to the work of the Royal Life Saving Society.
Jim and Barbara Morgan met the Queen at Buckingham Palace after receiving the HRH Prince Michael of Kent 125th Anniversary Certificate of Merit.
They were among 125 recipients from around the world honoured as part of the Royal Life Saving Society’s 125th anniversary celebrations.
The Queen is the patron of the society while Prince Michael is the Commonwealth president.
Mr Morgan, well-known for his Jim’s Self Storage business, is a fellow of the Royal Life Saving Society of Australia and life member of South Melbourne Life Saving Club and Life Saving Victoria.
Mrs Morgan is a life member of Altona Life Saving Club, South Melbourne Life Saving Club, Life Saving Victoria, Royal Life Saving Society Australia and RLSS Commonwealth.
In 2008, she was honoured with an Order of Australia Medal for her contribution to lifesaving.
Mr Morgan said he met his future wife through lifesaving when he was 17 and she was 13.
He described meeting the Queen as an “unbelievable” experience.
“She is everything that you’ve ever read and imagined about her,” Mr Morgan said.
“She’s just the most lovely lady of all time.”
