Footscray theatre group shows plenty of wit

Super-heroes, jail inmates and a new spin on Sherlock Holmes will feature women in many guises as the western suburbs’ own theatre ensemble takes to the stage.

The 2017 wit incorporated season puts women in the spotlight in a series of productions celebrating their contribution to theatre. Artistic director Belinda Campbell said women often only feature in supporting roles, and stories by women are hard to find.

“Every actor, director and writer involved is a woman,” Ms Campbell said.

She said the casts will also reflect the community, featuring actors from diverse cultural backgrounds, of differing sexuality and some with disabilities.

“At the heart of it all is great storytelling.”

The company continues a second year of its Braybrook Community Hub-based children’s outreach program, Wit Kids, as well as Sundays at the Church workshops. Details: witinc.com.au
