Inner-west women wanting to kickstart new businesses are being offered the chance to shine, thanks to a new scholarship.
Footscray-based women-in-business organisation She Will Shine is offering 10 $2200 scholarships to female start-up founders who live in Maribyrnong and who have been in business for less than two years.
She Will Shine founder Danielle Price said the scholarships, backed by Maribyrnong council, include access to mentoring, educational workshops, online resources and support from a group of like-minded female business owners.
Ms Price said getting support in the first two years of business is crucial, whether women are creating a business from a shopfront or home.
“I think it’s important because we do business differently, we need connections.”
Ms Price said she had founded She Will Shine as a way to reach out to other women facing the same challenges.
Footscray resident Bec Heelan said becoming a She Will Shine member in 2015 had helped grow her personal training business.
“She Will Shine is a social hub where likeminded women get behind one another and share,” she said.
“But it’s also a professional organisation with so much opportunity to up skill myself in areas that are not my strengths.”
Scholarship information sessions will be held at The Dream Factory, 90 Maribyrnong Street, Footscray, 1.30pm, February 13 and 14.
