Discover the roots and reggae sounds that made Nhatty Man a household name in his native Ethiopia when he takes to the stage with five-piece band Gara at the Emerge in the West festival on Saturday, May 20.
From 12.30-7pm, the free event in Nicholson Street, Footscray, will feature a stellar musical line-up alongside circus performances, craft markets, face-painting, fashion parades and cultural walking tours, along with pool competitions, workshops for children and artistic collaborations in music, art, fashion and dance.
Mauritian cultural band Sonik Waves will perform, as will One Spirit Africa Drum & Dance Company.
The Multicultural Arts Victoria event has evolved since 2011 to reflect the diversity of African arts, culture and small businesses that have been growing rapidly in Melbourne’s west.
Mayor Catherine Cumming said Maribyrnong was one of the most multicultural communities in Melbourne.
“This vibrant festival is another opportunity for us to celebrate our city’s rich diversity,” she said.
