Spotswood taken down a peg

Spotswood was knocked off top spot after a disappointing 43-point home loss to Hoppers Crossing in the Western Region Football League division 1 at McLean Reserve on Saturday.

The Woodsmen had averaged a massive 156 points per game over the previous three rounds, but they were restricted to just 43 on 13 scoring shots by a Hoppers side that was desperate to turn its own form around and show that it will be a challenger.

Things are looking brighter all of a sudden for Altona. The Vikings made it back-to-back wins in an 84-point belting of Wyndhamvale at Grant Reserve on Saturday.

Brett Shiels (five goals), Omar Abou-Zeid (four) and Josh Rafferty (three) feasted on the back of the Vikings plentiful attack.

But Altona’s big test will come on Saturday when it faces in-form Sunshine Kangaroos at Kinder Smith Reserve.

In division 2, North Footscray powered to a 110-point win over West Footscray at Shorten Reserve. Adam Petridis was named best for the victorious Devils, while Tyren Montebruno snagged five goals to make it 17 in four games.

Yarraville-Seddon was convincing 64-point winners over Newport Power at the Yarraville Oval. Brayden Smith played a starring role for the Eagles, while Jack Hargreaves booted four goals for the second week running.

In division 3, Parkside enjoyed a 71-point win over Braybrook at Pennell Reserve, on a day when Chris Muratore led the charge.

Laverton endured a hellish day, losing by 116 points to Sunshine Heights at Ainsworth Reserve.
