A 13-year-old Footscray boy’s quick-thinking may have saved a man from being hit by a train.
Alexander Lloyd called triple-0 on Sunday January 29 about 4pm when he was riding on a train and saw a man sitting on a track at South Kensington railway station.
The teenager told police during the emergency call he saw “a guy sitting on the tracks and holding something”.
“He was definitely shaking,” he said. “I just thought I’d better report it.”
Alexander, who is known to his friends and family as ‘Zander’, was one of 51 children who received a Junior Triple Zero Hero award from the Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority this month.
Emergency Services Minister James Merlino said the state’s junior triple zero heroes remained remarkably cool, calm and collected and are shining examples of how preparing children for an emergency can save lives.
Police took the man away from the tracks and he was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
