All the momentum is with Williamstown

Williamstown is the form team of the Victorian Football League.

The Seagulls made it five successive wins after accounting for Sandringham Zebras by 24 points in front of their home fans at Burbank Oval on Saturday.

Leading by 14 points at three quarter time, Williamstown secured victory with a six-goal-to-four final term burst, including four in a row to start the quarter.

The Seagulls registered 29 scoring shots and had 11 individual goalkickers, including two each to Lachlan Schultz, Arryn Siposs, Ben Cavarra and Sam Dunell.

Midfielder Willie Wheeler capped his best-on-ground performance for the Seagulls with a goal, while Dunell, Ben Jolley, Josh Newman and Nick Meese were among the best.

After starting the season 1-2, Williamstown has improved to 6-2 and rocketed up to second spot on the ladder.

The Seagulls will go into Sunday’s clash at Burbank Oval against the struggling North Ballarat as hot favourites.

Meanwhile, swingman Zaine Cordy kicked the clinching goal in Footscray’s thrilling four-point win over Essendon at the Victorian University Whitten Oval on Friday night.

With Essendon leading entering time-on, Cordy took a contested mark and kicked truly for his second crucial goal of the quarter, ensuring the Bulldogs came away with their second consecutive win.

Lukas Webb, Tom Liberatore and Mitch Honeychurch were prolific ball winners in the Bulldogs midfield, while Tom Campbell was strong in the ruck.

Footscray improved to 5-3 to sit fifth on the VFL ladder ahead of a difficult away trip to face Casey Demons on Saturday night.
