Laverton Magpies has started a women’s football team and is looking for players to start training for the 2018 season.
Team president, and mother of two young children, Katherine Nancarrow came up with the idea for the seniors side.
“I was sitting around with a few of my girlfriends and we decided we wanted to play a sport and we said, well, let’s play football,” she said.
She said Laverton Football Club and the Western Region Football League immediately jumped on board. “Within the week, we had a meeting with Laverton … now, it looks like we’ve got a team,” Ms Nancarrow said.
“A lot of these women, like my girlfriends, are mums and they have never kicked a football before.
“We’re all pretty new to the game.”
