Altona North Cricket Club is crowdfunding to raise $30,000 so its programs and facilities can be enjoyed by a growing population.

The club, established in 1923, fields four senior men’s teams in the Victorian Turf Cricket and will establish junior programs for girls and boys later this year to cater for an influx of young families with children.

Committee member and former president John Dickenson said cricket in the Altona North area was undergoing a revival.

“We feel that there is a real opportunity for us to specifically focus on the establishment of boys’ and girls’ cricket,” he said.

“In the next few months, in conjunction with Cricket Victoria, we’ll be undertaking programs in schools in the local area to generate some enthusiasm and some activities in relation to cricket for primary school children.

“That will lead on to events and day programs at the cricket ground.”

Hobsons Bay council is preparing a master plan for the club’s ground, Crofts Reserve.

The club will run junior cricket programs in November and December.

As the crowdfunding is being done in conjunction with the Australian Sports Foundation, donations are tax deductable.
