Williamstown great flying toward new records

Williamstown stalwart Ben Jolley will be back in the club’s blue and gold for an 11th straight Victorian Football League season.

The tough-as-nails onballer is one of the greats of the modern era for his longevity, inspirational leadership and on-field impact for the Seagulls.

Jolley is coming off a season in which he notched his 250th VFL game and 200th club game. Over that span, the 31-year-old has taken home the Gerry Callahan Medal for the Seagulls’ best-and-fairest on no fewer than four occasions.

He is on the verge of becoming the Seagulls’ all-time games record holder.

He entered the off season eight matches shy of record holder Troy West.

Jolley is also eighth on the VFL’s all-time games played list.

“Jols” played 18 of a possible 20 games this year, proving that he has plenty left in the tank.

In another significant re-signing, Jack Charleston has agreed to terms on a contract extension that will see him remain with Williamstown for an eighth season.

Charleston has been a mainstay of the Seagull defence, notching up his 100th game last season.

The small defender averaged 11.1 disposals and 4.8 tackles per game in this year.

It is also a busy recruiting period for Williamstown’s new VFL women’s team.

The Seagulls have raided the Western Jets’ youth girls team to bring in Kayla Koropeckyj and Emma Ludolff.

Koropeckyj came into the spotlight while playing local football for Wyndhamvale.

In three seasons with the Falcons, Koropeckyj, a Victorian under-16 representative, played
41 games for a return of 76 goals.

Ludolff is no stranger to goals, either, booting nine in 13 games with Caroline Springs last season.

She plays most of her football on the wing.
