Police hunt for man over West Footscray house fire

Police have released an image of a man wanted over a West Footscray house fire.

Police have released an image of man wanted in relation to a fire that severely damaged a house in West Footscray last month.

Police and emergency services were called to the fire on Geelong Road about 5.15pm on Wednesday, January 10.

The MFB received multiple calls for the blaze and firefighters arrived within five minutes to find a brick veneer and weatherboard single storey house well alight.

Crews brought under control within five minutes of their arrival but substantial damage was caused to the abandoned house.

The fire was deemed suspicious and police were notified.

A man wearing red pants and carrying a backpack was seen in the area at the time of the incident.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area at the time to come forward.

Maribyrnong Crime Investigation Unit detectives have released a facial composite image of a man who they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
