Filipino activists will join a local environmental group for a planting event at Newport on National Tree Day.
Friends of Greenwich Bay will plant grasses at the Sandy Point Wildlife Reserve, at the northern end of the Strand, next Sunday.
Member Jill Hocking said the friends group would be joined by members of the Filipino group Triskelions.
“Triskelions began in the Philippines in the 1960s as an anti-violence, anti-elitist student movement opposed to the martial law regime of President Ferdinand Marcos,” she said.
“The group believes in making a difference to communities and last year it took part in the Clean-up Australia activity on the Newport foreshore.”
Friends of Greenwich Bay is a long-established environmental group, based in Newport, which helps care for the coastal bushland.
The planting will run from 10am to midday and anyone can join in.
People wanting to plant will meet at The Gatehouse, near the athletics track at the northern end of the Strand.
