The head of Gymnastics Victoria has leapt back to his roots during a visit to RecWest in Braybrook.
Jamie Parsons, who grew up just around the corner from RecWest and went on to become an Australian football best and fairest winner at Braybrook Sporting Club, was back on home turf last week as he learnt more about RecWest’s newly launched YMCA Gymnastics program.
The program includes PreGym, KinderFun and GymFun classes aimed at children of all abilities from ages one to nine years old.
Classes are determined by age, with each program involving drills and skills appropriate for each age and experience level.
RecWest YMCA general manager Gerald Dixon said several of the classes are already nearing capacity, reflecting the quality of YMCA programs and the popularity of gymnastics as an active pursuit for young people.
“Gymnastics is particularly positive as it promotes co-ordination, strength and agility, which are now widely recognised by parents as important foundation skills for children that promote lifelong involvement in sport and physical activity,” he said.
Mr Dixon said the programs were supervised by fully trained and experienced instructors.
