Real Madrid striker to join Yarraville soccer clinic

Legendary Real Madrid striker Emilio ‘The Vulture’ Butragueño will share tips with the state’s best and brightest young soccer players at Yarraville this Sunday.

In a partnership event with Victoria University at Footscray Hockey Club, 50 local players aged 12 to 14 will train alongside Butragueño in a public exhibition and clinic with Real Madrid Foundation coaches.

Butragueño, who played in two World Cups and scored 26 goals for Spain in international matches, says he’s looking forward to seeing the next generation of Australian football stars.

“This experience will stay with the lucky young Victorian players throughout their lives, and perhaps into their future football careers.” the champion said.

VU College of Sport and Exercise Science dean, Hans Westerbeek, said VU was thrilled with its collaboration with the Real Madrid Foundation to host world-class coaches and football royalty, such as Butragueño.

“We know there is no shortage of soccer interest in Melbourne, with the International Champions Cup games and A-League finals selling out in hours, so we invite all fans to join us on Sunday,” Professor Westerbeek said.

Real Madrid Clinics use the same training methods as Real Madrid Football Club. The young soccer stars taking part are from teams across Melbourne. The clinic, from 2.30-4pm, will be followed by autograph opportunities.
