Yarraville Club takes pole position

Yarraville Club will take hold of the No. 1 ranking in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association senior division finals – but only just.

The Clubbers finished a mere 0.30 points above second-placed Seddon, who stormed into the finals on a six-game winning streak, including a huge outright win over Tullamarine on the road at Dineen Reserve on Saturday.

Yarraville Club did what it needed to do to secure the all-important top ranking, beating Spotswood by 76 runs at Walker Oval.

The Clubbers were set a victory target of 208, which they achieved six down.

Just as important for the Clubbers was to continue to bat strongly to 8-283, which provided enough additional points to finish above Seddon.

Seddon go into the finals full of confidence, having been unbeaten since the middle of December.

The Dockers dismantled Tullamarine, bowling the hosts out for 52 and 134, while posting 205 of their own.

Yarraville Club will face Keilor in its semi-final, while Seddon will meet Doutta Stars.

In north west division, Druids swooped on top spot on the final day after an outright win over Aberfeldie at Shorten Reserve.

After posting 201, Druids bowlers went to work, rolling Abers for 78 and 154, leaving their batsmen just 32 runs to get in the second innings, which they picked off for the loss of two wickets.

In a thrilling race to the top, Druids pipped Altona North by just 0.03 points.

North will still be feeling confident after securing second spot with a commanding outright win over St Albans at Crofts Reserve.

North bowled the Saints out cheaply twice for 78 and 73. North made 135 in its first dig and needed just 2-18 in their second innings to wrap up the outright. Druids will entertain Haig Fawkner in the semi-finals, while Altona North will square off with Sunshine United.

In north west A1, Altona Roosters have qualified for the finals, despite a last round loss.

In west A1, Williamstown Congs and Gellibrand have qualified for the finals in the bottom half of the top four. The Congs rounded out the home-and-away rounds with a 41-run win over Gellibrand at Digman Reserve. The Congs have a semi-final date with Grand United, while Gellibrand locks horns with minor premiers Seabrook.

In north west B1, Williamstown CYMS has taken third place in the finals after a comfortable final round win over Wyndhamvale by 94 runs at Fearon Reserve. CYs will play St Andrews Pascoe Vale for the right to play in the grand final.
