Sneakerheads put best foot forward

Vision and Mellow Sea of Sneakerheads.

Footscray hip hop group Sneakerheads is lacing up for the gig of a lifetime this week as the support act for  California hip hop pioneers Tha Dogg Pound.

Al-flex, Vision and Mellow Sea, Footscray and Braybrook locals, are big fans of the group who came to prominence in the early ’90s on albums with Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre.

They had already bought tickets to see the icons when they found out they will be warming up the Prince Bandroom crowd for the show this Thursday night.

Tha Dogg Pound has been a mainstay in the West Coast hip hop movement since its multi-platinum debut release “Dogg Food’’ in 1995.

Al-flex said the western suburbs upbringing of the Sneakerheads members means they have long been interested in creating their own West-Coast inspired beats.

He said the opportunity to play for such a big crowd and open for their idols is a big step for the performers, who have been gigging locally for almost a decade.

“We’ve been bringing hip-hop to the western suburbs, giving it a local feel,” he said.

“We are really looking forward to it, hopefully it’s a full house in there and a lot of old-school hip hop fans are there.”
