Rhythms of the world

Rod Pilois is bringing the rhythms of the world to Point Cook.

Pilois teaches his Beat Factor Drum Group to play samba, calypso, reggae and African music every week at the Saltwater Community Centre.

“With teaching, I’ve always liked to pass on and share things with people,” he said.

“When I discover something new, I can’t wait to share it with my students.”

After coming to Australia from Mauritius almost five decades ago, Pilois completed a bachelor of music degree at the Victorian College of the Arts and a masters in music technology.

These days, in addition to teaching drums, guitar and bass, he plays with jazz and funk trio AJP and records and produces music at his home studio in Seabrook.

Beat Factor Drum Group term two classes will run from 7-8pm on Tuesdays until June 26 at the Saltwater Community Centre. Cost: from $10.
