African Australian AFL stars join Africa Day celebrations in Footscray

African Australian AFL stars have shared inspirational stories of their own personal journeys as part of Africa Day celebrations in Footscray.

Western Bulldogs premiership hero Jason Johannisen was joined by North Melbourne’s Majak Daw, Richmond’s Mabior Chol and Hawthorn’s Changkuoth Jiath at the recent event, hosted by the Western Bulldogs.

The players discussed the importance of their heritage as well as their love for the game as part of a day that featured panel discussions, traditional food, and drummers and dancers from the Asanti Dance Theatre.

Children from Footscray Primary School grilled the players as part of a Q&A session held just for the pupils.

Africa Day, held on May 25, marked the annual commemoration of the founding of the African Union in 1963.
