IN FOCUS: Snug as a bug in a pair of Uggs

There’s nothing more Australian than Ugg boots – they are Aussie icons of the highest order.

Forget the copies, though– it’s only UGG Australia that can rightly claim to be the only company in the world that creates a 100 per cent Australian-made product.

Company owners Luda and Roman Fishman moved UGG Australia from Brunswick three months ago and have set up shop in Laverton North.

Now’s a good time to visit the new shop because if customers mention this story, they’ll get 20 per cent off all products.

Aside from that, the company is quite special.

Luda explains …

“We’re the only Ugg boot manufacturer in Australia who owns our own tannery,” she says. “This means that all our raw materials are from Australia and nothing is imported – unlike other Ugg manufacturers, who falsely claim to be 100 per cent Aussie made.

“This means benefits for our country. We buy our materials from Australian industries, such as farming, which supports local economies. And because we must adhere to the safest environmental standards in the world, we use no dangerous chemicals that cheap overseas products can.”

The company, which has been in operation for 37 years, is probably best known for its various styles of Ugg boots and slippers. But, employing between 60 and 100 people, it also manufactures a range of other goodies.

Lambswool rugs are perfect for baby nursery mats and as pram and cot liners.

For the ultimate in luxury, there’s fox fur throws – big enough for a king bed.

Something smaller, perhaps as a gift? How about a purse, pouch, hat or mittens?

Cute, soft and fluffy Australiana toys are made to be loved by any child – and also make a great gift for overseas visitors.

For cold feet, there’s nothing warmer than a pair of fox fur Ugg boots. And for a bit of bling style, how about merino wool Ugg boots with three large Swarovski crystal buttons down the side?

Visit the Laverton North store and have a good browse to feel the quality and check out the unique creations.

UGG Australia, 31 Gilbertson Road, Laverton North. Opens 9am-5pm Monday-Friday. Inquiries: 9386 5544
