A Japanese experimental sound artwork will have its Australian premiere on Wednesday at The Substation in Newport.
The show, 100 Keyboards, by multi-instrumental sound artist Asuna from Japan, features 100 battery-operated plastic keyboards playing the same key.
“Most of the keyboards I use are cheap toy products, mostly second-hand,” Asuna said. “A lot are rescued from hard rubbish.
“In the show, the sound of each room is very important. As the crowd moves, the sound changes, so the sound of the work is changing every time depending on the environment.
“I hope the audience will have a new perspective and interest in sound through the performance.”
Four shows will be performed in the grand spaces of The Substation as part of the Melbourne International Arts Festival – on October 10, 11, 12 and 13 at 8pm.
