Traffic has been thrown into chaos at peak-hour after a pedestrian was struck and killed on the Princes Freeway.
The man, who is yet to be identified, was hit by a truck and a car on the inbound lanes near Point Cook Road just before 5.30am.
All four inbound lanes of the freeway have been closed causing gridlock stretching back four kilometres to Sneydes Road.
Traffic is thick on Sneydes Road, Morris Road, Forsyth Road and Sayers Road, as motorists attempt to avoid the scene.
VicRoads is warning motorists to expect significant delays through Hoppers Crossing, Williams Landing, Seabrook and Laverton.
All inbound traffic is being diverted off the Princes Freeway at Forsyth Road, VicRoads warns.
“For those coming in from the west, try Forsyth Road, Sayers Road and Old Geelong Road to get back onto the Freeway,” a statement says.
“For those coming in from Point Cook or Seabrook, try Central Avenue, Queen Street, Maidstone Street and Kororiot Creek Road to get back onto the Freeway.”
Meanwhile, there’s a 10-minute delays across almost the entire train network after an earlier equipment fault.
Metro has apologised to customers. A spokesman said a fault during an overnight system upgrade was to blame.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the pedestrian on the freeway prior to the crash or who may have dash cam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
