The Woodsmen offered a timely reminder of the threat it could serve up at the Western Region Football League division 1 finals in a 64-point win over local rivals Altona Vikings at McLean Reserve on Saturday.

It was a powerful display from the second-placed Woodsmen, sparked by a six-goals-to-one second term.

They rammed the visitors into the ground with a further seven goals to three after half-time.

The Langlands brothers – captain Tom and veteran Will – were named best for the Woodsmen, while Jye Orchard, Lachlan Fairley and Murray Boyd won their positions.

Christian Elliott booted three goals for the Woodsmen, while there were two each for Boyd, Tom Langlands and David Iaccarino.

It was a real body blow for the Vikings, who have worked hard in recent weeks to put forward their finals credentials, as a three-game winning streak come to a screeching halt.

The Vikings will host Albion in a must-win game at Grant Reserve on Saturday as it strives to preserve fifth spot on the ladder, while the Woodsmen have the bye and can only wait nervously to see what kind of damage comes from around the grounds in round 16.

In division 2, North Footscray rode its luck but grabbed a nail-biting three-point win over Yarraville-Seddon Eagles at Hansen Reserve.

The Devils had 12 fewer scoring shots but their accuracy in front of goal was near impeccable, turning 15 of 19 scoring shots into goals while the Eagles landed just 12 of 31.

Sam Kater continued his sensational season for the Devils with a sixth best-afield for his side in nine matches, while Kaine Williams had the radar working with five goals.

Williams has booted 43 goals in 11 games to sit fourth in the division goalkicking.

The victory has assured the Devils of a finals berth, while inconsistent Yarraville-Seddon still has work to do to book its place.

West Footscray had a stunningly easy 74-point win over Caroline Springs at Town Centre Oval.

The second-placed Roosters kept the home side to just five scoring shots for the day.

Munir El Houli, the division’s top goalkicker with 58, booted six goals for the Roosters.

In division 3, a new premiership contender has emerged after Parkside mauled ladder-leader Albanvale by 49 points to move into second spot.

The Parksiders, controversially relegated from the first division to the third tier to keep the club alive in the off-season, are looming ominously in the premiership picture after convincing wins over the top two sides.
