Police have arrested a motorcyclist who was allegedly detected travelling at almost 200km/h in Laverton North this morning.

Police said they observed a 2003 Suzuki motorcycle at the intersection of Fitzgerald Road and Leakes Road about 1am.

After the rider failed to pull over on Fitzgerald Road, he was allegedly caught travelling at 196km/h in a 70km/h zone.

Police followed the motorcyclist to a Wyndham Vale address, where a 22-year-old was arrested.
