Get your motor running

Thousands of car enthusiasts will flock to Williamstown this Sunday for the Resto’s and Rods Car Show raising money for a good cause.

The event raises money for Variety: the Children’s Charity, supporting sick and disadvantaged children in Victoria.

The team behind the show, Declan McKearney and Samantha Martin from Resto’s and Rods Garage, recently restored an EJ Holden they donated to the E.J. Whitten Foundation.

Mr McKearney said a few years ago the pair decided to do the Variety Bash, an annual fundraising event where people drive cars more than 30 years old across Australia.

“Our first year, we drove from Melbourne to Darwin and we were totally hooked,” he said.

Ms Martin said the show was a way to combine two passions.

“We couldn’t think of a better way to fundraise each year,” she said.

“We get to combine our love of car restoration and old cars and we put on a car show with all the proceeds going to Variety.”

This year’s show will have more than 200 pre-1978 cars on display. There will also be live music from Itchy Fingers, food trucks, and beer on tap in the Pirates Tavern.

Car pre-registration is recommended via www.restosandrods.com.au

On Sunday, December 2 from 10am-4pm at Seaworks, 82 Nelson Place, Williamstown.
