About 100 house properties are involved in what is believed to be a development project close to the main Footscray shopping centre.

The area covers a large slice of the triangle contained in Barkly and Droop Streets and Geelong Road and takes in parts of the west side of Droop Street, the south side of Geelong Road and Hugh, Emily and Fitzroy streets. Most of the houses are timber built, single fronted, on blocks about 20ft wide, and 60 years old, or more.

The last meeting of the council directed the city engineer and town clerk to report back on steps to be taken and necessary structural alterations and additions for the parade to be closed to traffic. Cr Jeff Bird introduced the motion saying a shopping mall or walking street would be an important advance.
