The Western Bulldogs have been dealt a blow just weeks out from the start of the AFLW season.
Scans on Monday revealed that Brooke Lochland sustained a fractured fibula during the second quarter of Saturday’s practice match against Collingwood at MARS Stadium in Ballarat.
Western Bulldogs AFLW Coach Paul Groves said they would have a clearer idea on a time frame in the coming days.
“We’re waiting for Brooke to see a specialist in the next day or two, and from there we will know the course of action,” Paul Groves told club’s website.
“It’s disappointing for Brooke because she’s done a mountain of work this pre-season.
“We look forward to finding out exactly what it is and working out our next steps.”
Lochland was a standout last season, leading the league’s goal kicking with 12 goals. That total included a bag of seven goals against Carlton.
The injury marred the Dogs only pre-season match, which they defeated the Pies by seven points.
Co-captains Ellie Blackburn and Katie Brennan were named the Dogs best in the win.
The Dogs start their season away to Adelaide on February 2.
